New prize for Junior Violinists at Feis Ceoil!

The Power Fine Violins Prize

We are delighted to announce that Power Fine Violins has generously offered a violin to the value of €5,000 to a Feis Ceoil competitor.  This will be awarded to the competitor who will most benefit from a good quality instrument at this stage in their musical development.

Eligibility:

Competitors eligible to apply will be the 1st placed violinists in the following competitions at Feis Ceoil:

8.01 St. Cecilia Cup

8.02 Terry O’Connor Trophy

8.03 Junior Violin (A)

8.04 Junior Violin (B)

8.05 Junior Violin (C)

(Should a competitor win more than one of the above competitions, they will select which competition to represent.  The next highest-placed violinist in the one not selected will then be eligible to apply for the prize, provided they have obtained 85 marks or higher.)

Selection process:

Candidates will be invited to submit a ‘letter of motivation’ from their teacher, outlining their suitability for the prize.  They will then be invited to attend an interview (via Zoom) with a panel comprising the adjudicators of the qualifying competitions and a Feis Ceoil representative, where they will have an opportunity to discuss their musical ambitions.  (As all candidates will be under 18 years, they will be required to have an adult present during the interview.)  The winner of the prize will be announced once the panel have had an opportunity to deliberate after all the interviews have been held.  The decision of the panel will be final.

The winner will also be invited to perform at one of the Feis Ceoil concerts in the year following the competition.
