Orchestral Conducting.

Competition: In association with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Age Limit: 18-35 years. Competitors must complete the additional online entry form when entering for this competition. Shortlisting on the basis of information submitted may apply in the event of large numbers of entries.
1st Prize: Trophy, presented by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and a studio performance with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, recorded by RTÉ lyric fm. Also, the Crimmins Conducting Bursary of €500, presented by Séamus Crimmins.
Test Pieces 2023Round 1: Competitors to choose one of the following works, the orchestral reduction of
which will be performed on two pianos:
Haydn: Symphony No. 104 (London), 1st movt.
Schubert: Rosamunde Overture
Mozart: The Magic Flute Overture
Brahms: Academic Festival Overture
Rossini: The Thieving Magpie Overture
Rossini: The Barber of Seville Overture
Mozart: Symphony No. 38 (Prague) 1st movt.
Beethoven: Symphony No. 8 1st movt.
Round 2 (Final): A maximum of three finalists will be selected to conduct the RTÉ Concert
Orchestra. Finalists must conduct the test piece, and choose one of the other works listed
below, but may not choose the same work chosen for Round 1.

Ravel: Pavane pour une infante défunte (Luck’s)
Round 2 choices:
Beethoven: Symphony No. 1, 1st movt. (Luck’s)
Haydn: Symphony No. 104 (London), 1st movt. (Bärenreiter)
Mozart: Symphony No. 36 'Linz'; KV425, 1st movt. (Bärenreiter)
Beethoven: Egmont Overture (Luck’s)
Schubert: Rosamunde Overture (Luck’s)
Mozart: The Magic Flute Overture (Kalmus)
Fauré: Pelléas et Mélisande Suite (1st movt, and any other movement of candidate's choice) (Luck’s)
Strauss: Gypsy Baron Overture (Kalmus)
Beethoven: 4th Symphony, 1st or 2nd movts. (Bärenreiter)
Beethoven: 6th Symphony (Pastorale), 1st or 2nd movts. (Bärenreiter)
In both rounds, competitors will be given time to rehearse and perform as follows
In Round 1 a total of 30 minutes maximum will be allocated for rehearsal and performance.
In Round 2 up to 50 minutes may be used for rehearsal, but competitors are requested to play the test piece through in its entirety before rehearsing it.
Performance of all the selected works by the three finalists will take place in concert immediately after the three rehearsals.
Both the rehearsal and performance will be assessed by the adjudicators in both rounds.
Finalists are not permitted to attend the rehearsal or performance of the other candidates.
Round 2 will take place on a different day during Feis Ceoil.
